Cattle at Midbar Ranch
Quality Certified
The grazing permit on National Forest is for 300 head of cattle year-round. Together with the deeded land, the ranch can run up to 450 head.
The cow herd is red angus cross. Bulls are 100% registered red angus – sons of Cherokee Canyon, Beckton Lancer, Beckton Julian, Glacier Chateau, Beckton Epic and Beckton Minerva.
Quality loads of red angus cross calves are sold in August/September on the Superior livestock video auction and delivered in late October/early November.
The ranch is New Mexico Beef Quality Certified and has New Mexico trichomoniasis fetus-free herd certification. Calves are source and age verified through the Red Angus Feeder Calf Certification Program. The ranch also complies with two Superior Livestock Auction Value Added Programs: Vac 34+ and “Owner Certified Natural”.
Since the sale of its first load of calves in 1992, Midbar calves have sold consistently higher than the average for the area. In several years the calves topped the market in their weight class at the Superior Labor Day Sale. The ranch has also obtained carcass data that has improved its reputation. In 2012 our heifers, harvested by JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding LLC, graded 87% choice or prime.
